The Landmine of Compromise

“Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil”  Ephesians 6:11

March 20, 2011 – Week 2

Reference scriptures: Genesis 13: 10-13 & 19: 4-14

  • Compromise begins with lust
“Lot took a long look at the fertile plains of the Jordan Valley in the direction of Zoar.”  Genesis 13: 10 “For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world.”  1 John 2: 16

  • Compromise will lead to loss
“They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.”  Genesis 14: 12

What did Lot lose? What could we lose?

 1. Ability to reason
“Look, I have two virgin daughters. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do with them as you wish.”  Genesis 19: 8

2. Moral Authority
“So Lot rushed out to tell his daughters’ fiances, ‘Quick, get out of the city! The Lord is about to destroy it.’ But the young men thought he was only joking.”  Genesis 19: 14

3. God’s presence
“Then she cried out, ‘Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!’ When he woke up, he thought, ‘I will do as before and shake myself free.’ But he didn’t realize the Lord had left him.”  Judges 16: 20
