April 3, 2011 – Week 4
Reference scripture: Ephesians 2: 4-10
“For out of His fullness (abundance) we have all received (all had a share and we were all supplied with) one grace after another and spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing and even favor upon favor and gift (heaped) upon gift.” John 1:16
Definition of Grace:
Free unmerited favor and love of God. It is the spring and source of all benefits that we receive from God.
What we receive because of God’s grace?
- God’s forgiveness (Ephesians 1:7)
- God’s power (Acts 11:23)
- God’s peace and grace (New Testament 17 times)
- God’s protection (2 Corinthians 12:9)
What can we do to become a partaker of God’s grace?
- First thing needed to receive God’s grace is HUMILITY.
“Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'” 1 Peter 5:5
- Second thing needed to receive God’s grace is BOLDNESS.
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
- Third thing needed to receive God’s grace is FAITH.
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.” Romans 5:1-2
- Fourth thing needed to receive God’s grace is KNOWLEDGE.
“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.” 1 Peter 1:13
“my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:16
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches od his glorious inheritance in his holy people,…” Ephesians 1:17-18
